The Less is More Approach

The Less is More Approach – The Little Stying Co.

We’re now in a high tech driven world where everything is emailed, text, face time, and purchased online with express delivery.

Behaviours of people’s consumerism, lifestyle and the way we interact within our spaces have changed over time. We’ve simplified technology as well as design. We as consumers want our products and everyday lives to be made simple and easy especially with our busy schedules. The less is more approach is by far the way to go when it comes to interior design and styling. In the past it was all about "the more the merrier" with displaying ornaments and personal decorative items however these days we want to spend less time maintaining a household, making way for the more important things in life.

Some believe minimal design is bare and empty and the less is more approach isn’t suited to everyone’s taste. But the purpose and idea behind it might make you think twice about the minimal approach. You can still display your beloved objects but think about its' purpose and function when placing it within your home. Does it serve you and your home in the way that makes your life easier or more simple or is it purely for aesthetic purposes?

If styling your coffee table, dining table or bedroom, before you tick it off the list as complete, take something away! Now re-evaluate the space and its' objects and think about how you can further simplify your look. We are the first to admit that even when we style homes, we love to place luxurious, feather-filled cushions on our beds to create a sense of comfort, however we do use the less is more approach in other areas of surface styling. Edit your selections and bring your home decor back to it’s simplest form. You’ll be sure to create a less cluttered and more sophisticated space. It’s all about creating a calm environment and simplified home, enabling you to stress less and do more of what you love.
